Strengths: I am a good speaker with what I consider to be a good sense of humor. I have four children, my third is on the spectrum, so I know where parents of "normal" children are coming from. I am open minded, and I would give my life for any one of my children; I actually feel that I am. It isn't easy balancing the needs of four kids and pursuing the dream of making sure they all have happy, healthy lives, but I feel in my heart that it is worth the work. I know my son was given to me for a reason; I know I discovered the diet for a reason; I know I trusted myself after a while more than I trusted any doctor for a reason. I tend to be a bit of a skeptic, but I know I'm being led down this road for a reason. Maybe this is it.
Why I became a
Rescue Angel:
My son didn't start the diet until he was almost five. We have seen a remarkable improvement in his behavior and overall health. I believe that, if done properly, the diet is the beginning of the recovery process. Many parents I speak with tell me that they have tried the diet, but that it was ineffective. When questioned, I found that most were not looking at all aspects when implementing the diet, such as shampoo, vitamins, school supplies, or even something as simple as using a toaster that has not been "contaminated" with gluten or casein.

Strengths: Dietary Intervention for Autism
Why I became a
Rescue Angel:
To help moms like me, who are willing to do what evers necessary to heal their child.
Child's Symptoms: Extremely gradual, because I believe it began with his first shot, the Hep B, 24 hours after birth. A week after his 9 month shots I also noted changes, but only after going back to read my diary after my son was 5 years old. Matt gradually had gone into his own world. He had tantrums, and we became prisoners to his behaviors. We couldn't take him out in public. He had very few words, but we could tell he was very smart. We saw a DAN doctor (www.autism.com) at age 5. Began the GFCF+ diet, and he's been improving ever since.
Helpful Therapies: Supplements and GFCF+ diet. Matt had stomach pains before seeing our DAN doctor. Those were gone after 2 weeks. Taking away casein lessened his tantrums, and taking away gluten took longer to see. Over the years I have been able to see that other foods have been a problem for him, and he is off of soy & legumes (nuts), corn, eggs, citrus, and high oxalate foods. It has been worth it though!! Our lives are SO much better, and Matt has a future.
