Strengths: diet/nutrition, supplementation, allergies. I became a nutritional therapist and was lucky to work with Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, who helped me recover our son.
Why I became a
Rescue Angel:
We have been blessed in so many ways. I was lucky to have the financial resources to try many different things with our son. It is time for me to give back and share with others some of those blessings. I also learned that people don't need to be rich to recover their child's health and want to share what I now know.

Why I became a
Rescue Angel:

Child's Symptoms: Autism Spectrum...now high-functioning, mainstreamed into 7th grade, Little League etc.
Helpful Therapies: Low sugar, Low/no processed, GF/CF diet. SuperNuThera, B6, magnesium, Sensory Integration therapy, enzymes, probiotics, detox, fish oil, NO LOW-QUALITY VITAMINS or RX!

Strengths: Organization of treatment--knowing what questions to ask, putting together a customized treatment plan, finding cost-effective resources. I'm also a giant diet and DAN! fan; my son is a patient at Thoughtful House in Austin. We have not done *all* of the treatments (yet), but I feel very confident encouraging families to try the diet and DAN.
Why I became a
Rescue Angel:
Having gone through the process of fighting for my son's recovery--fighting my own doubts, fighting with insurance companies and doctors, fighting with my own family members--I know how exhausting it is. I am now feeling at peace with the decisions I've made, the progress we've made, and the progress we have yet to make, and I want to support parents who are feeling as frightened, angry, and hopeless as I did during the first year of Zach's treatment.
Child's Symptoms: Diagnosed PDD-NOS:
Significant language delay
Significant echolalia
Poor eye contact
Behavioral issues (aggression)
Sensory integration issues
Helpful Therapies: GF/CF diet, Fish oil, 5HTP, MB-12 (most helpful), ABA

Strengths: GF/CF diet, the DAN! protocol/vitamin therapies, seizures, other therapies, chelation, dealing with stimming and self injurious behaviors, behavioral interventions, and how to advocate for your child in the public school system.
Why I became a
Rescue Angel:
I remember when my son was diagnosed in 2001, after multiple MISdiagnoses since 1998. My husband and I discovered it was autism after hundreds of hours of research on our own...a DAN! doctor confirmed it immediately after. Doctors just didn't know about autism then. It wasn't all over TV or the Internet. We actually had to drive out of state to get to a DAN doctor. Our local pediatrician had told us to work with what we had, and to consider institutionalization. It took us tons of research and traveling across the country to figure out what to do. I don't want one more person faced with fighting a child's autism diagnosis to feel that lost. I help so many people who find their way to me, wondering how to start on the journey to recovery, or just wanting to ask an opinion or to bounce ideas off of. Some just want to vent. Now that we've been through this process, is a mission in my life to try and make that road easier for others.
Child's Symptoms: No eye contact, severe stimming, severe self injurious behaviors, significant developmental delays (including gross motor, fine motor, speech, & social interaction), multiple ear infections, sensory issues, foul stools, severely distended belly, and more.
Helpful Therapies: Top winners for us have been GF/CF diet, chelation, hippotherapy, and DAN! protocol (including B-heavy miltivitamins...specifically Super NuThera & SNT Everyday Companion by Kirkman, probiotics, enzymes, yeast control, cod liver oil, methylcobalamin shots, zinc, TMG, colostrum, L Glutathione both in pill and transdermal forms, CoQ10, taurine, lipoic acid, epsom salts, iodine...a lot of DAN! supplements!!!). Our guy had massive yeast growth, so Nystatin helped that, which helped his behaviors a lot, too.

Why I became a
Rescue Angel:
I just want to share the feeling of Hope. I've been there, when you feel there is no hope and heart is so broken it's all you can do to get out of bed and go.
Child's Symptoms: My son was diagnosed with Autism May 2005. In the last four I have continued GFCF/ SCD diet and consistently done Biomedical
interventions to improve the life of my son. I vowed if my son every got better, I would become a rescue angel. My son is not completely healed but, it better
than I ever dreamed off. Four years ago he could speak, would not look at you or respond, struggled with potty training,
following simple instructions,
Classic Autism.
Helpful Therapies: 1. Diet GFCF/ SCD 2. B-12 injections 3. Chelation, I've done them all from capsules to IV and the IV really did the trick. 4. ABA Therapy 5. Speech Therapy 6.Support from my Loving Family and friends.

Strengths: Gut dysbiosis (candida), hyperacusis, bouncing off walls, self injurous behavior, and ABA.
Why I became a
Rescue Angel:
Because there are Warrior Dads, too. When Ben was three years old, his pediatric neurologist said, "Save your money for his institutionalization when he turns twenty-one." As I detail in my book "Saving Ben: A Father's Story of Autism," my 21-year-old son has progressed from severely autistic and profoundly retarded to job-ready. He graduated from high school in 2009. He's not recovered yet, but we are on a roll. I want to share my experience as a single dad recovering an older child. Conventionally trained pediatricians as a whole are inexperienced in this treatable disease, and no mom or dad should have to go walk this road alone. Autism is treatable and recovery is possible. Any age can benefit. Never give up.
Child's Symptoms: Gastrointestinal distress (gut dysbiosis), reflux, thrush/candida overgrowth, chronic ear infections, immune disregulation, hyperacusis, apraxia, lost language, small motor skills disintegrated, SIBS (punching head, biting hand), hyperactivity, lost eye contact (used peripheral vision only), nystagmus, perseveration, PANDAS, OCD/anxiety, screaming and screeching, seizures, sleep disorder, tantrums, visual stimming, spaced out, withdrawal, isolation.
Helpful Therapies: ABA/Lovaas therapy, GFCF diet, probiotics, chelation, IVIG, hyperbaric oxygen (HBOT), sensory integration, auditory integration training (AIT), antifungals - very helpful!, Secretin, caniosacral therapy, anti-inflammatories, inhaled glutathione, inhaled/transdermal/injected B12/folinic acid, chlorine dioxide, STAR program at school (finally!), most of the supplementation therapies outlined in Kenneth Bock's book, Healing the New Childhood Epidemics.

Strengths: Genetic predisposition, body burden, environmental triggers can get you into deep trouble. Mother Nature is a formidable opponent. Every week we learn more on how the body works and what humans have done to jeopardize health. Too many toxins deplete energy; a great deal of energy is used for the digestive system; a vicious cycle begins when you can't digest the nutrients needed for proper brain function. Opportunistic pathogens set up shop (we ought to divert NASA funds to studying the gut where the most fascinating aliens live!). We have MD sources in the area who can help. The brain integrates the senses the first two years of life. Some MDs here now see the need for a modified vaccine schedule to help with sensory maturation. In the predisposed, the nerves can be damaged with the MMR, damaging the immune system and preventing sensory integration. The brain cannot function properly in this condition. Other influences on sensory integration are ear infections, tubes, multiple births, antibiotics, formula, genetics, mother's body burden of toxins such as heavy metals, pesticides, mold, fungal infections. The amygdala in the brain patrols for threats to the body. Once it senses these abnormalities it will send out stress hormone which is a toxin furthering havoc in the biochemistry.
Why I became a
Rescue Angel:
A healthy society is good for all.
Chemistry = emotions = behavior.
Child's Symptoms: Early on: stimming, OCD, anxiety, severe tantrums, ODD, hallucinations, sensory dysfunction, impetigo, eczema, asthma, food allergies, constipation, diarrhea, daily sinus drip;

daily sinus drip, anti-social
Helpful Therapies: DNA Testing, heavy metals testing, pesticide panel, Metametrix ION biochemistry panel, nutritional supplements, pharmaceuticals (thyroid, anti-virals, B12, DMSA), chelation, neurofeedback therapy, OT, Sensory Integration testing and therapy, fungi cleanse, low dose anti-virals, SC diet, GF/CF diet, Gupta Amygdala retraining, EFT, counseling with psychologist, sauna, exercise, melatonin, homeopathy

Why I became a
Rescue Angel:
I want to help people who might be in my situation. I live in a small town, and here no one seems to have gone through this or understands what I am going through. I am having a hard time finding any kind of docotr around here who has any kind of expirience with Autism. I want to be able to give mothers in small towns hope, and be there to say, "hey I know what you're going through and I will try to help", because I didn't have that. And i am still in the learning stages myself, but I will help all I can.
Child's Symptoms: My son was not verbal, did not make eye contact, and did not even acknowledge anyone in the room. He is not speaking any words yet, but is now starting to make noises and use non-verbal communication.
Helpful Therapies: So far, we have had him in speech therapy and occupational therapy and we saw major strides with these. He is now making wonderful eye contact, participates in games like patty-cake some, and is in the beginning stages of speech. We are also working on the PECs system with him for speech. I am currently in the process of finding a DAN! doctor, and that is not easy in my small town, but we will drive however far we need to in order to find him a good doctor.

Why I became a

We've felt so lonely and lost at the time we were learning and researching autism syndtome. We long for someone to talk live, to share their experience, to give us hope... to show us there was a way to fix our boy.
We found ourselves reading tons of books and websites, looking at information that contradicts and warned against each other's advise; fortunately we made a great decision and would like to help others to make their's without feeling totally wrecked.
Child's Symptoms: SICK: ear infections, asthma, pneumonia, chronic diarrhea.
PLUS: not eating but bread, not sleeping night-through, waking up with nightmares, tantrums, spacing out, no eye contact, stop talking at 18 mo., head banging, hand flapping, spinning and turning toy wheels.

Strengths: I was a R.N. for 15 years before children. Biomedical is my major strength. I have two children on the spectrum. One with ASD and one newly diagnosed with Aspergers. My oldest is ADHD. I have knowledge of many therapies from ABA to hippotherapy. I am a board member of the Katy Autism Support Group.
Why I became a
Rescue Angel:
I did not have any help with biomedical when my child was first diagnosed. Of all the therapies biomedical has helped more than any. My child is not recovered, but well on his way. We see Dr. Jepson at Thoughtful House and have made great strides. I regret not starting biomedical sooner. We as a community need to help each other out as much as possible. Autism can be so isolating at times. I would love to help families along their road to recovery.

Strengths: I know the importance of ABA and how important it is to get it as early as possible. I am also very knowledgeable about leaky gut syndrome and how important it is to heal the gut to begin healing the entire body and mind. I don't have any medical background, but would stand on a mountain screaming about how important pro-biotics are if people would listen. My family and friends get fed up with me talking about LGS, but I don't care. Auto-immune problems run strong in my family, so I'll talk about it until they disown me or start taking pro-biotics.
Why I became a
Rescue Angel:
I didn't believe in supplements as a form of recovery until I spoke to another parent and she said I should give it a try. I was skeptical, but read a few books and thought I would give it a try. I couldn't afford to see a DAN! doctor, so I tried it all on my own, but stuck with supplements specifically formulated for children. Within 2 weeks I noticed a huge difference in my daughter. Just to confirm it wasn't just wishful thinking, I spoke to her teacher and asked her if she had noticed any differences with her. She told me she had been engaging in conversation more and was more tollerant to things she wasn't normally tollerant to. I had alway accepted that she was autistic and embraced it for what it was. I realize now that my only regret is that someone hadn't told me about the suppliments earlier. If I could help one person, I would feel so good. If I could help 100, I would feel like the queen of the world. I am so blessed and want to share and help anyone who will let me. We didn't think the GFCF diet would work for us, but when we did a food int. test to see if it would, it came back for severe for wheat. We have since started on the GF/CF diet and my daughter's communication has increased by a milestone. I can now contribute about 50% of her success on the GF/CF diet and stand by those results.
Child's Symptoms: Loss of speech, poor eye contact, lack of original language, chronic ear infections, toe walking, constantly lining up objects, the list goes on.
Helpful Therapies: GF/CF, supplements, ABA, speech,, behavior modification, social interaction, ballet, and gymnastics.

Strengths: Biomedical: GF/CF diet, Supplements. What works and what doesn't for my child and those similar. I know that this worked for my child and when I tried something else, it didn't. It's really a lot of trial and error and we are still battling the error....but he is almost home. I feel the Elemental diet worked best along with Meds from out GI doctor, Dr. Krigsman. After starting this diet, his attention soared. He seemed happier, eager to go places and do things and was understandable more comfortable. We also recently started IV Chelation through thoughtful house. It is amazing what he does just daily. I can't wait to do more. We have gone 8 times so far.
Why I became a
Rescue Angel:
I keep answering questions in my local Autism group or through Thoughtful House yahoo group saying "oh my kid did that but this is what I did and he is better now. I get e-mails saying "are you the one with the kid that was..." I think it was a sign from GOD to help others!

Why I became a
Rescue Angel:
Twelve years ago, my son was diagnosed with Autism. His pediatrician gave me a referral to an organization that would help me "cope" with the diagnosis. I was not interested in "coping", I was interested in "curing", so I left and sought help from anyone who had had success with this condition. I was fortunate to have found a nutritionist/chiro (thank God for the Internet University) and a Dianetics counselor who could help me. In those days everyone thought I was nuts for what I was doing, my family did not support me and I was all alone, a single mother. Little by little I found people willing and able to help me save my son. Within 6 months there was dramatic improvement and his pediatrician was stunned into silence at his advances at his 6-month check-up. I then married the Dianetics counselor and together we have continued to research treatments that work on this and other conditions. My son is now 16 and is healthy and happy and getting straight A's in school. My husband now applies what we learned to help other kids get well. Our motto through this whole ordeal has been "Failure is not an option." It wasn't an option for my son and it certainly isn't an option for anyone's son/daughter. Thank you Jenny for speaking out and giving all of us Mother Warriors a voice.

Strengths: I work for a developmental pediatrician, doing patient histories. I have interviewed over 150 families and have learned how autism manifests itself up and down the spectrum. I can help families in the early stages of diagnosis. My husband and I are on a journey of biomedical healing with our son. We will share all we know and help research what we don't! My son has a dad willing to give up Oreos. So many men struggle with their child's diagnosis. My husband looked at me and said, "tell me what to do." He's never looked back. He advocates biomedical intervention better than I can. Our community needs even more role models for Warrior Fathers.
Why I became a
Rescue Angel:
My son is diagnosed with Asperger syndrome. So often, the unique characteristics associated with this expression of autism are mistaken as "bratty or defiant" behavior. The mistake is made by parents, teachers and doctors alike. I hope to raise awareness of Asperger and its place on the spectrum.
Child's Symptoms: anxiety, perseverative behaviors, vocal stims, mild OCD
Helpful Therapies: The GF-CF diet, ThreeLac, Nystatin treatments and Kirkman Super Nu-Thera improved his narrative language and lessened his perseverative behaviors and stims. His attention span lengthened significantly. Healing the gut, heals the mind! He is currently receiving homeopathic treatments for anxiety. We haven't yet discovered how best to help him overcome the severe anxiety. The treatment which has helped most significantly is removal from the public school system. Talk about a need for raised awareness. It's so hard to recognize Asperger and so many children are being mistreated by the public school systems. They are mislabeled as defiant or worse. Homeschooling works for my son but I feel like I abandoned the fight for improvement. I didn't make the system change and that eats at me. PLEASE, take the fight to the schools. I'll share my story and find other parents willing to share theirs. Our stories will knock your socks off. My son's school actually wanted to put him in a storage closet so his crying would not disturb state mandated testing.

Child's Symptoms: Became completely non-verbal. Sleep disorder, severe stomach and intestinal problems, SID, OCD, metabolic disorder(NOS), Immune disorder (NOS), turmors with nystygmaus, chronic constipation, chronic respiratory infections including asthma bronchitis, and pneumonia; auditory processing disorder.

Before Autism With Autism After Treatment

Strengths: My son has been on Dr Amy Yasko's nutrigenomic protocol for 2 1/2 years. Her book, The Puzzle of Autism, is recommended on your website. I've used herbs recommended by Zane's ENT, Dr Charles Hamel, who leads us through Dr Amy's protocol. We also do GFCF, so I have knowledge about these treatments.I have a good basis of knowledge in most areas re: autism, with a strong conviction that autism is not a brain disorder; it's an illness and "autism pride" is an oxymoron. There is no shame in it whatsoever, but "autism pride" is as sensible as "cancer pride." I'm very realistic and want to be part of the autism TRUTH movement (thanks, Jenny, for helping bring it to public awareness!). When I first learned about autism recovery and the facts, I started wondering where all of the celebrities were with autistic kids, considering the stats. I told my husband that it was going to take a celebrity to bring autism truth to light, and then came Jenny. :) She's unapologetic and the world needs that for this cause, considering all of the misinformation out there. I talk freely about autism truth to anyone who might listen, try to be as active as possible in online parenting forums, have a few online presences that I try to have helpful info on (http://www.savvysmallfry.com/Autism, http://www.autismsavvy.squarespace.com, http://www.showmetherecovery.wordpress.com), post facts on Facebook as often as possible (http://www.facebook.com/sommertx) and on Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/showmerecovery).
Why I became a
Rescue Angel:
I have to be- I have to share the hope of recovery because the pain of losing a child to this illness and not knowing what to do is HELL.
Child's Symptoms: No eye contact, non-verbal, stimmed all the time (to the point of hurting himself), head banging, sensory issues
Helpful Therapies: Nutrigenomic protocol by Dr. Amy Yasko, GF/CF. Speech and occupational therapies helped some but always keep in mind that any therapy not addressing internal imbalances only assist in better functioning- they don't recover!

Strengths: I feel that my biggest strength is with parents that are on the fence, when it comes to the vaccine issue and the biomedical issue. Most of the time all I have to do is tell my (our family) story and they are no longer on the fence. I have three kids ages 8, 6 and 4, all of which were injured by childhood immunizations. I want more people to hear about families like ours and see that the autism epidemic is really a vaccine issue. I'm also very good at Google, seriously, I can research like nobody's business. Plus I'm southern, loud and friendly. Yes, <<<>>>>.
Why I became a
Rescue Angel:
I have fought for the rights of my children for 6 years, we have been through so much, I don't think I could give it justice here. Lets just say, I have a lot to say, and lot to be thankful for. And if my experiences can help another family? HELL YES! The autism/vaccine injury community has given me so much, our family owes a great deal of debt. So I'm ready to give back! Bring it!
Child's Symptoms: "Autism like symptoms", very limited speech, echolalia, "stimming", scripting (SpongeBob), no social interest, no emotion, no eye contact.

Strengths: I am starting to learn how to do ABA therapy to help my son because schooling is way out of my money range. I have quite my job as a lab tech to spent full time learning about this and reading all books and therapy books to become more aware of what i need to do. Also I have gone through many of the steps to get my son some help which if you come from a small town it is like nobody has heard the word autism.
Why I became a
Rescue Angel:
I would like to hear from other parents that are starting out on this and maybe we could help each other with information and help to know where to get some information
Child's Symptoms: No verbal Language, temper fitts when unable to tell you anything, many others
