8 Benefits of Using CBD

Team GR: Last year, we predicted that CBD would be a huge wellness trend. After loving Dr. Frank Lipman’s books in our April and December book clubs, we knew he could easily help us understand the benefits of CBD.

What is CBD exactly? Does it have the same effect as cannabis?

CBD (cannabidiol) is a compound in cannabis/hemp plants that produce amazing medical, therapeutic, and disease prevention benefits. Cannabis plants that are bred to be high in CBD do not make the user “high” like bred THC-rich plants do. Instead, CBD produces anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, antispasmodic, anti-cancer, and anti-anxiety effects and can help common issues such as sleep and stress.

CBD indirectly stimulates our endocannabinoid system (which is found in our body – specifically our nervous system). It helps balances our endocannabinoid system, which allows the body to heal.

During these times where there is an opioid epidemic cursing our nation, it could play a crucial part in helping to aid and resolve this crisis by providing a safer and beneficial alternative to pain meds.

How is it different from THC? And how do we know which one to take?

CBD has long been overlooked, as the active ingredient THC has been more popular for its mind-altering constituents. THC is the compound in cannabis that gets you “high,” which is why cannabis is illegal in many countries.

It works indirectly with our endocannabinoid system, while THC works directly with it and immediately gives you the psychoactive experience. An easy comparison of the two is THC gives you a “mind-high” while CBD gives you more of a “body-high.”

While THC has a lot of similar therapeutic benefits (pain reduction, anti-anxiety, etc.), it alters the mind which makes it less useful for daily life. CBD can be used daily to aid in common ailments while allowing you to continue to live your life as normal.

Is it possible to get CBD from hemp instead of cannabis?

Hemp and cannabis are one in the same plant, but this plant can be bred for different uses.

What are the benefits of Cannabidiol?

  • Reduces pain
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Reduces anxiety
  • Aids sleep and stress
  • Relieves nausea
  • May treat seizures and other neurological disorders
  • Fights cancer
  • Can promote cardiovascular health

How should we be taking it?

CBD can be taken orally in tincture form, ingested in supplement/edible form, or inhaled in vape form. It also can be applied topically.

Dosage varies per person, so an individual must experiment at first in a safe setting to find the dosage that works for them. Always start small and work your way up if needed.
