Have You Been Tested

Uncover the Similarities Between You and Your Child

There is a lot of talk about autism and genetics versus the environment. I’m not a doctor, but I think many parents think both may be involved. It’s sort of like if you have a family history of type 2 diabetes, but you exercise, eat properly and keep your weight under control, you may never develop it yourself. Autism might be similar in have a predisposition to it and then having the right environment cause the actual disorder.

Having said all that, have you and your spouse or your child’s other birth parent, been tested for any of the same deficiencies or  illnesses as your child? I recently wasn’t feeling very well. I was tired and achey. I had battled this fatigue for years but every single time I took the problem to my primary care physician I was told my tests were normal and there was nothing wrong with me. So when I started feeling bad this time I decided to try my son’s integrative medicine doctor. I saw his nurse practitioner who suggested a group of tests I don’t typically do with my primary care doctor. They tested typical things like my CBC (complete blood count with differential), my A1C which tests my blood sugar over the month, but they also looked at my vitamin D level, my B12, my thyroid as T3 and T4, and for the Epstein Barr virus. They are also doing a saliva test to see if i have adrenal fatigue. Any of this sound familiar?

I’m still waiting for the results of these tests, but as the doctor and I talked we discussed other problems in my family tree. She suggested that with my son’s autism and Alzheimer’s being present I may have mercury poisoning too. I do have several amalgams in my mouth and I’ve had them for ever. It would not be out of the question that I have mercury poisoning. In addition my son tested positive for one MTHFR mutation (a methylation mutation). This suggests that either my husband or I, possibly both, have the same mutation. MTHFR makes detoxification difficult. See the connecting threads?

So, have you been tested? Do you think you should? Do you have amalgams? Fibromyalgia? You may be suffering similar problems and may benefit from speaking to a knowledgable doctor to help you as you help your child.

Stay Well.
