Pokemon Go Players Rally Around Teen with Autism Amidst Bullies

Ty, a 15 year old teen with autism, isn’t letting a recent bullying incident bring him down… but it took a little help from some new friends!

After two college-age men passed by, squirted barbecue sauce, and spat the dreadful R-word at Ty and his mother while on a Pokemon Go adventure together, Ty’s sister took to Facebook to share the horrific encounter. Following her post on a community page for Pokemon Go players, fellow members arranged a “meet-up” in their Arizona hometown to take Ty on a new adventure. One free of barbecue sauce and full of acceptance and newfound friendships.

Three important lessons to take from Ty’s experience:

1) The R-word is still around and it needs to go. 🚫

2) Don’t lose faith in humanity. You never know when your community will show up for you! 👏

3) Kindness always outweighs cruelty, so keep spreading the love! 💞
