Dear Generation Rescue Family,
I vividly remember my phone interview with JB Handley and his questions, almost a decade later. He was so precise in asking if I was ready to be a part of a movement that would change children’s health. At that time, I had a minuscule understanding of autism, yet I knew deep down, beyond the fear of the unknown, it was where I was meant to be.
I’m honored to have been the Executive Director of Generation Rescue for the past 10 years. Within my first year at the foundation we created the Rescue Family Grant Program and my son Bodhi was born. A career highlight is when a Dad called after 8 pm on the Friday night of Father’s Day weekend to say his 13 year said, “I LoveYou” for the first time. To this day, it still brings tears to my eyes. I credit my son’s health to being at the right place at the right time and to having the best mentor anyone could ask for, Jenny McCarthy. There are so many other moments too.
Over the years, I have dedicated myself to the foundation and the cause creating Team GR. We step in and up, no matter the circumstances or demands because our bottom line is the children. As Mark Twain said, “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” From a small handful of employees, dedicated volunteers, generous donors and sponsors a family has been created that continues to grow. I’m forever grateful to each person who has been a part of this journey over the past 10 years. I’m forever grateful to each person who has been a part of this journey over the past 10 years. While I am stepping away from my daily duties, GR is going to continue to forever be family. This is just the beginning, I’m looking forward to seeing the direction Zack Peter takes it in and being a part of the future.
Thank you for allowing me to be your fearless leader. Please keep in touch on Instagram @candacemcd because I want to remain a part of your journey.
