We are fresh off our trip from Chicago for the Gluten-Free and Allergen-Friendly Expo in Schaumburg, IL! We had a great weekend meeting new families, checking-in with old friends, and teaching the gluten-free community about treatment options for autism.
Below are some of our favorites from Expo:
Best New Product:
One thing that was sure to satisfy our tastebuds was the variety of nut butter! From the classic almond and peanut butter to the new cashew and sunflower seed butter, it was a weekend full of crunchy, smooth, nutty flavor! Our favorite was definitely the sunflower seed butter, as it was one of the tastiest and one of the most allergen-friendly, avoiding nuts all together. Sunbutter cups and individual packs are perfect for on-the-go. Looking for an organic variation? Yumbutter has larger pouches that are USDA Certified Organic and give back to kids in need. Plus, both brands are available at Target!
We all have our classic brands that we just can’t live without. They’re the brands we have to stock up on every time we hit the market. One of our rockstar volunteers this weekend, Allison, says Kinnikinnick Foods is definitely her favorite guilty pleasure! She was so happy to see them at Expo and load her bag with lots of goodies. Who can blame her? Their GF/DF/NF donuts are delicious!
Best Baked Goods:
Speaking of our sweet tooth, we had Mommy Warrior (and previous grant recipient) Chrissy join us on Sunday. First booth on her hit-list? Sweet Ali’s Gluten Free Bakery! She told us they had the best sweets in town and we couldn’t agree more! Perfect for allergen-friendly desserts. Thanks, Ali, for this Sweet deal!
Best Grain-Free Snack:
Dark-chocolate, coconut flakes, almonds, pecans, and more… Do we have your attention yet? We know lots of our Warriors have taken the GF/CF diet another step further and have started eliminating grains altogether. That’s why when we found Kitchfix Grain-Free Granola we had to do a happy dance, before loading all of their flavors into our bag!
Best New Resource:
Generation GF is a great resource for families new to a gluten-free diet. With easy to follow guides, helpful charts, and a plethora of great information, their site is a great place for someone looking to explore the benefits (and importance) of eliminating gluten.
Enjoy Life Foods. Free of the eight most common food allergens, this is one booth we unanimously loved. As a longtime supporter of GR and with tons of safe, yummy snacks, it was an easy pick! Chrissy says her daughter Maddy LOVES the Cherry Cobbler bar she brought home.
Lots of goodies to pack the kids lunches and lots of new sample to still try out! It was another successful GFAF Expo.
