Your Rescue Bullet makes it easier to get good nutrition into your child’s diet, especially for picky eaters. As an autism nutritionist, I love helping parents find new ways to get nourishing foods into their child no matter what special diet they are following.
Here are my six favorite ways to use your Rescue Bullet to get good fresh food and nutrition into your child:
1. Try Non-Dairy Whipping Cream. Many children with autism are dairy-free/casein-free, but that doesn’t mean they can’t share in having treats with their friends. Make a non-dairy whipping cream with cashews, coconut, or hemp seeds. Encourage fresh fruit eating by adding a dollop on top of fruit or fruit salad. You can also use Cashew Cream as frosting on a gluten-free cake or use to make a dipping sauce like my Ranch Dressing recipe (included in this article). Add cashews to the blender with water (as described in recipe below) and blend using the flat-blade* on your Rescue Bullet until thick and smooth.
2. Add Pureed Vegetables to Foods. Cook vegetables like butternut squash, zucchini, carrots, and broccoli and puree them in the Rescue Bullet with a small amount of water to allow the blender to spin. Use the cross-blade on the Rescue Bullet. Freeze extra in ice cube trays and use as needed—frozen or thawed. Add pureed vegetables to smoothies, muffins, pancakes, meatballs, meat patties, and pasta sauce for added nutrition.
3. Grind Nuts and Grains into Gluten-Free Flours. These fresh flours are much higher in nutrients since they are not sitting on the grocery shelf for months losing nutrients. It’s cost effective to make your own flour, as you can grind small, fresh batches as you need them. You can also make uncommon flours such as pumpkin seed flour and sunflower seed flour quickly and easily in your Rescue Bullet. Use the flat-blade.
4. Create a Healthy Smoothie with Avocado and Zucchini. Toss 1 cup of fresh berries or frozen fruit in the Rescue Bullet, with ¼ of an avocado, ¼ cup of pureed vegetables such as peeled zucchini or use “vegetable ice cubes,” ½ cup fresh juice or coconut water, and 1 tablespoon of melted coconut oil. Use the cross-blade for one of the most nutritious and delicious smoothies you’ll find.
5. Use Homemade Mayonnaise. When you make your own mayonnaise you get the freshest ingredients and no preservatives and for people with allergies, you can use tolerated ingredients. For example, some children can’t eat chicken eggs but can eat quail eggs, so you could make your mayonnaise with quail eggs. Additionally, you will use only the best quality ingredients such as pastured eggs, and olive and coconut oils. Add all the ingredients from your favorite mayonnaise recipe into the Rescue Bullet with the flat-blade. Blend until creamy and emulsified into mayonnaise texture.
6. Make a Dipping sauce. Dipping sauces are one of my favorite ways to encourage healthy eating, especially raw vegetables. Kids love dipping sauces—it makes eating vegetables fun! Serve vegetables such as cut, fresh celery, carrots, jicama, cucumber, or red bell pepper with a dipping sauce such as my dairy-free Ranch Dressing. To make the dipping sauce, add all ingredients to the Rescue Bullet (see recipe below) and blend with the flat-blade.
*The Rescue Bullet has two blades. The cross-blade has blades that are both horizontal and vertical and is good for smoothies and other chunky things, while the flat-blade is good for whipping creamy foods and grinding flours.
GFCF Ranch Dressing Dip

Can be made nut-free with hemp cream in place of cashew cream. Can even be made egg-free using an egg-free mayo.
3/4 cup cashew cream or non-dairy plain yogurt
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar (with yogurt, less lemon or vinegar may be
needed, add to taste)
1 teaspoon parsley (dried)
3/4 teaspoon dill
1/4 teaspoon garlic
” teaspoon onion
1/8 teaspoon salt
Blend 1/2 cup cashews plus 1/2 cup hot or boiling water in blender until a thick cream.
Add rest of ingredients and whisk until blended together.
Chill and serve as a dip. Can be thinned with a non-dairy milk and used as a Ranch salad
From Cooking to Heal
1 cup raw cashew pieces
1 cup water
Cashews can be soaked for a varying amount of time. They soften in 15-20 minutes; however,
some people prefer to soak them in water for 6-8 hours, then drain off water. For the purpose of
this recipe, cashew cream can also be made when they are not soaked at all.
Blend cashew pieces and water in a blender or food processor until thick and creamy.
Use cashew cream in recipes when a heavy cream texture is desired. Ideal for an ice “cream” recipe. Continue to whip and it will resemble whipped cream.
